Who we are
We are a shelter dedicated to the rescue, care, and protection of vulnerable animals. Our mission is to offer a second chance to dogs and cats who have been abandoned, abused, or in need of special care.
Since our founding in 2021, we have rescued more than 250 animals, providing them with comprehensive veterinary care, proper nutrition, and plenty of love and affection. Our goal is to find responsible and loving homes for each of them, ensuring they have the dignified life they deserve.
Stories of Transformation
Mel
Found in a cardboard box in the rain, Mel was hypothermic, dehydrated, and injured. After months of intensive care, she became a happy, playful dog, now living happily with her forever family.
Rocky
Rescued dog with injuries and illnesses. He underwent surgery and physical therapy. Today he is a courageous and independent dog who has won the hearts of his new family with his unique personality.
Lola
A puppy was found chained and malnourished, terrified of people. With patience and affection, Lola learned to trust again. Today, she’s a sweet and loyal companion who loves to be petted and play.
Teddy
A puppy rescued from a vacant lot, she was suffering from mange and was very thin. After dermatological and nutritional treatment, Teddy transformed into a graceful and affectionate little dog, who, still recovering, reigns supreme in her new home.
Each story represents a life transformed by love and care. These are just a few of the hundreds of animals we’ve been able to rescue and rehabilitate thanks to the support of people like you.
Save the Shelter
It’s hard to ask for help every day. But it’s even harder to look them in the eye and have no food, no shelter, nothing.

Testimonials
Real stories from those who are part of the Refúgio da Sophie’s shelter
Barbara Meli
Three years ago, I fostered two puppies at Sophie’s Shelter. Even though I couldn’t adopt at the time, I found a way to contribute monthly toward their care. Seeing their progress and recovery through the photos and videos I received is heartwarming. The kindness and transparency of the staff completely won me over.
Weekend Volunteer
Patrina Asher
Every Saturday, I’m at the shelter helping with baths, medication, and, most importantly, giving affection to our furry friends. Each animal has its own unique personality and special needs. Seeing the 24/7 dedication of Sophie’s Shelter and its staff inspires me to keep helping. It’s therapeutic for me and transformative for them.

Our Thor arrived home a year ago, rescued by Sophie’s Shelter. He was very injured and suspicious, but with patience and lots of love, he became the most loving and protective dog I’ve ever known. The staff supported us throughout the adjustment process. Today, we can’t imagine our family without him.

I started donating sporadically, but when I saw the real impact my contributions had on the lives of animals, I decided to become a monthly donor. I receive reports on how my donation is being used, and this gives me great confidence in my work. Every amount invested here multiplies in care, love, and hope for these creatures in such need.
